Thank you for Choosing ROB HURLEY’S POOL SERVICE.
The Southern California region is subjected to several different types of natural disasters that can drastically affect the enjoyment of your pool. In this section we describe some of the natural disasters that can affect Southern California and what preventative measures we recommend for the continuing enjoyment of your pool experience.
Earthquakes: The Southern California region is known to have a high frequency of earthquakes and earth movement. Due to the sudden and violent nature of earthquakes we ask that customer please ensure their own safety before checking on their pools. Once you have ensured your own safety and of those around then please proceed with your property inspection. If you notice any major cracks in the surface/lining of your pool, if you notice any cracks in the concrete decking that surrounds your pool, if you notice a sudden drop in water level of your pool, or notice that you pool equipment has been damaged please contact us immediately 714-397-0146. Your pool could have major structural damage that would prevent normal enjoyment. If you notice a propane, natural gas, gasoline smell emanating from your pool heater after earth movement please vacate the area immediately and contact your local gas providing authority immediately. For evaluations of earth movement and possible damage as a result of earth movement please contact us at 714-397-0146 for help.
Windstorms: the Southern California region is subject to annual windstorms that bring large amounts of debris to the Southern California region. It is imperative that your pool equipment continue to function during the windstorm events to ensure the best pool experience possible. Please DO NOT shut your pool equipment off- please check the pool debris catching baskets (skimmer, pool vacuum, and pump baskets) on a regular basis (minimum once per day) to ensure that any debris is removed accordingly. Please use a pool pole with net attachment to remove any larger debris from your pool, if the amount of debris is in excess we may need to drain your pool to access the debris at the bottom of the pool to keep from overwhelming your pool filter and ensure proper function.
If you have yard equipment (tables, chairs, rocker swings, dog houses, cat houses, bird feeders, storage sheds, swing sets, children’s play sets, lawn mower, hedge trimming equipment, or other major debris) in the pool please notify use before our arrival- typically it will take 2 people to remove water soaked yard equipment from a pool, Thanks
Wild Fires /Structure Fire: The Southern California region is known for having a high susceptibility to fire hazards and fire danger. In the recent fires we have had many incidents of customers wanting to know what the best course of action to maintain their pools in optimum operating condition, not only for their own personal maintenance but also to assist our pool service technicians in keeping their pools clean and clear.
Structure Fire: If your structure (home/residence) is on fire please contact 911 and emergency services immediately. Once you have safely evacuated the premises and the emergency responders have been able to extinguish the fire hazards please contact us immediately (714-397-0146). Prior to our arrival our customers are encouraged to inspect the pool equipment for damage (melting of equipment (Plastics/metal/Equipment casings), smoke damage to equipment, wiring or electrical damage (exposed wires)).
If any of your pool equipment has suffered damage please contact us immediately at 714-397-0146- do not touch any exposed wiring and please shut off any electricity or gas lines to the equipment/heaters.
After a fire the clean up for a Pool is specific to the amount of debris and condition of the pool upon inspection by one of our service technicians. The options for a fire clean up include a simple vacuuming/brushing/netting (only for light debris), to the draining a pool for debris and soot removal then re-filling and re-stabilization of the chemicals, up too having to do a complete pool drain that includes a pool surface acid wash to remove hardened ash and soot stains, pool re-filling, filter cleaning, and Pool chemical re-stabilization.
For our customers who perform their own maintenance:
If your pool equipment has not been damaged then please initiate the start up procedures. Please use a Pool pole and net to remove any large debris and begin running your pool for at least 24 hours to filter any ash, soot, debris from the pool water. We recommend empting your pools debris catching baskets (skimmer, pool vacuum, and pump baskets) and brushing the bottom of your pool to return any ash/soot to solution for filtration by your pool filter. After the initial removal of debris from the pool water we recommend a full pool vacuuming with acid treatment for proper PH/TDS/Alkalinity maintenance- after removal of the fire debris a filter cleaning is typically necessary to ensure proper pool function and clarity.
Wildfires: When the Wildfires begin to affect Southern California it can be a troublesome time for pool maintenance. As seen in recent years not only will ash and soot falling from the smoke plume be a factor in creating a less than ideal pool condition- the winds that accompany the wildfires add their own debris to the items which needs to be removed for a proper pool enjoyment experience. The below is the recommended course of action when your pool is suffering from Wildfire ash/soot exposure.
If your pool has debris from a wildfire please contact us immediately for assistance – 714-397-0146
If the amount of debris is in excess we may need to drain your pool to access the debris at the bottom of the pool to keep from overwhelming your pool filter and ensure proper function.
Recommended actions for self maintaining customers:
Turn your pool equipment on to a full 24 hour a day function- please remove your “OFF” tripper for circular timer devices, for the automated control pad please place the control pad in service mode- with the pump/Filter mode highlighted. Please check the pools debris catching baskets (skimmer, pool vacuum, and pump baskets) at least once a day and remove any debris that has been found. Please leave your pool pump/filter equipment running until the Pool Service Technician has had a chance to review your pool status and perform any necessary maintenance.
